I don't see how you can be against free market economics when it comes to executive pay, and still think it's ok to have a lottery. Either we follow the free market, or we don't.

No and no.

Equating the two (lottery and wages) is a false analogy, as one is compensation for work completed (whether you thought it was unjustified or not) and one is gambling and a game of chance.

There's a difference between a CEO and a guy buying a lotto ticket out of desperation at QT. One controls the system, the other is under its control. Even so, I don't think the government should be the one to try and make things right. The bottom line -- there is injustice in the world. Getting the government involved will just shift power from one group (business leaders) to another (political leaders).

One of the responses said that the government has no legal authority to limit pay. Well, you better get a memo to Barney Frank. Truth is, the government will take as much authority as you give it.

The government exists only to protect our natural rights (life, liberty, property), not to meddle in our economic affairs.

I would favor the abolition of the lottery though. I find it irritating that my tax revenues are spent to promote such an idiotic system. I have no problem with private lotteries or gambling though.

No, companies should limit executive pay, then again, the executives are the company so they can take the largest chunk of the pie and the workers get whatever they kick down to them. It's sad really how some people will spent their whole lives working and get nothing but scraps from people like Donald Trump, snobs.

The government has no legal authority to dictate the terms of employment between an individual and his/her private employer in such a manner. I have no issue with the lottery, though I will never play it (it's a sucker's bet). I'd really like to see them legalize online poker again....they could add a tax to the rake.

There's a salary cap for ball players, why not for government officials?

I'm not concerned about the amount of pay, but instead the difference in pay between them and their employees who are paid as if they are slaves.
