1. There is a difference in being the best player in college and being the best choice for the NFL.
2. Smith did not help himself by not being in shape for the combine. All that did was to raise a lot of questions.
3. Not going in the first round is not that terrible. Lots of good QBs have gone in later rounds.
4. Remember too that Smith is of marginal size for a QB and that will scare off teams,
5. Bottom line for me (an I'm a Michigan fan) is that Smith will be a great value pick for some team that has the luxury of not starting him immediately. I Would be happy for the Lions to take him in the 3rd or 4th round.

Brady Quinn did not deserve the Heisman. He flopped in almost every big game Notre Dame played. Troy Smith at least put up a little bit of a fight in the Ohio State-Florida national championship game.
Brady Quinn will be an NFL bust. I can almost guarantee it. He will be the next Ryan Leaf. Brady Quinn hasn't shown that he can win big games. So until he does, I say he will be Ryan Leaf Jr.

Past Heisman Quarterbacks that sucked or never played in the NFL:
2003 Jason White OKL
2001 Eric Crouch NEB
2000 Chris Weinke FSU (Still a backup but that's all)
1996 Danny Wuerffel FLA (Nicknamed Danny Awful to some)
1993 Charlie Ward FSU (Great player but drafted by the Knicks of the NBA)
1992 Gino Toretta MIA (Became an ESPN analyst, that's the highlight)

Troy Smith was an amazing College quarterback, but scouts worry about his size and decision making in the NFL. Brady Quinn has more up-side in the NFL because he was in an NFL system under Charlie Weis at Notre Dame. Troy Smith was a better big game quarterback in college, so he was more deserving of the Heisman, but Heisman quarterbacks usually aren't the best NFL quarterbacks. Out of the last 10 QB's to win the trophy only Leinart and Palmer are good NFL QB's and Leinart still hasn't proven himself.

Just because someone wins the Heisman doesn't mean they will go as the first pick. It depends on what the teams need. Take a look at last year, Houston thought they had a solid quarterback and running back so they let Vince Young and Reggie Bush (Hesiman runner up and Heisman winner) go, along with Lineart (also Heisman winner) so they could bolster up their defense. As it turns out Houston was pretty stupid because Reggie helped NO go to the playoffs, & Vince stomped them in their own house. And to top it off Houston needs a QB and RB this year.

Troy Smith or Steve Slaton. Quinn and Ainge are out of the photograph till Smith (or Henne) stumbles, and Slaton will win it over Ian Johnson as a results of fact he performs against greater durable opposition. From there this is Smith's versatility and management vs. Slaton's gaudy numbers on an undefeated group.

Troy Smith had a far better college career than Russell and Brady Quinn thats why he won the hiesman. Not because he is a better player but because he performed better. So he diserved the hiesman.
The hiesman doesn't have anything to do with the NFL. College ball and Pro ball are 2 different games

Excuse me?
Brady Quinn is going to be the biggest bust of this draft.
Stop your sucking up to Notre Dame.
Him and Notre Dame are highly over rated and deserve NOTHING. They play NO ONE! And when they do play the only two competitors they do play, Michigan and USC, they get DECAPITATED!!!! They even almost lose to Stanford and an armed forces team!!!
Quinn is horrible... stop saying he's so great just because he is a good looking guy..

He is not that good. The main thing is he was listed at 6'2" but went to the combines and measured 5'11 1/2" inches. Meaning he is too short to see the passing lanes. Their have not been too many successful qb's under 6'3", remember Jeff Blake!!! Drew Brees is a rarity!!! Doug Flutie well his heart was bigger than his height and skills for the NFL. He did have tons of success in the CFL which something tells me thats where Troy Smith is going to end up.
