Because, like humans, the modern monkeys and apes also evolved from earlier "monkeys" and "apes", but clearly not at different rates and in different directions. Why do different species of cat exist? Because they all evolved from earlier primitive cats. Lions did not evolve from tigers, did they?
I agree with ecolink, this, and it's Ape variant, is one of the most common and ludicrous questions on YA.
And please do not let your next question be "If evolution is true, why have we not seen an ape become a man?"

Sigh...yet again the "monkeys" thing.....MILLIONS of years ago...there was an ancestor that was common to both monkeys, apes and humans......different features evolved over time that made monkeys different from the other ape/huamns.....monkeys evolved to so they als lok different to how they did MILLIONS of years ago.....
Around 10 million years ago there was more changes to some homonids (human-like) that made them differ from apes (eg being able to walk on 2 legs)....these early homonids and apes loked similar...but apes too have evolved over the last 10 million years!!!
Just to point out, there are at least 20 different species of homonids...not all lead to being human ......ie they died out because they did not fit into the environments....but they lived for long periods of time (eg a million years!)....they changed little by little getting taller, getting bigger brains etc.
Only one group are left...thats us...we have changed a bit from our earliest 2 legged ancestors....but the chances of monkeys walking and talking like us would be practically impossible.

because man evolved from a species of monkey that most likely doesn't exist anymore. Just like monkeys evolved from ...you guessed it, monkeys. Monkey isn't the scientific name but if you look at the fossil record it's undeniable.(Except by the god freaks who will deny everything)....You want to hear something really crazy???? There is tons of evidence that whales (yes whales) evolved from dog like - land walking creatures.

really, evolution should be made more clear in biology class these days.
Humans didn't evolve from monkeys. Humans and monkeys evolved from a common ancestor.

Because they are truly smarter than we are. They live a carefree life with almost no stress. They dont have to worry about the 9 to 5, or the nagging wife/girlfriend. They actually look after one another, unlike humans. Wouldnt it be nice if that still actually still was the norm today.

You really should read a comprehensive book on evolutionary biology. The way speciation occurs certainly does not mean that a particular species will continue to evolve into something else.

This must be about the 8000th time someone has asked this question.
What if monkeys and people have the same ancestors? Nothing says that monkeys have to be gone.

If you had bothered to find out how evolution works you would not need to ask this question.
As you have not, it is unlikely that you will pay heed to any answer here.
But basically, its a bit like asking "if there is a winning team in the league, why does anyone else bother playing".

1. If Christians evolved from Jews, why are there still Jews?
2. You're stronger, smarter, taller, and better looking than your second cousins, so why do your second cousins exist? (If you can't figure it out, then you're not smarter than your second cousins).
