It means we were our own worst enemy. We let bureaucracy, political in-fighting, and not fighting the war to win it lead to escalation of the war, and the extension of the war.

Viet-Nam was an unpopular war. It divided the country.
Having said that-in the movie "Platoon", written by Oliver Stone, the writer was setting up the conflict that happens betwwen the two leutinents, on e played by Willem Defoe and the other guy with the scars on his face.
In the movie the conflict isn't between the 'good guys' and the 'bad guys' like in a regular war movie. It's between the corrupt 'good guys' and the idealistic 'good guys'.
So it's goodies vs. goodies, hence the enemy within.

Hello Seema, this means that keep silence in the thoughts level. So you could talk so harmoniously without any excitation or perturbation. During such a stage the body will be in normal functioning state and all organs would be in perfect harmony. And so talking would be so relevant and so useful for everyone as well as for the speaker.

It is saying that the further people get away from society the more the change into people that are anti social. In other words, they become their own worst enemy. They lose their values and destroy the important things in life, their values.
