I'm starting to study right now and planning to take the SAT in October. I got a 2040 on a practice test (without studying), so how much time studying should I do daily for a 2400?

You're not going to get a perfect score. 2040 is a very good score (slightly better than mine), but to get a perfect score happens to about 100 test takers each year. My best friend got a 2360 his first time taking the exam. He studied his butt off, took it again, and got a 2350. Set a good range for yourself but don't be disappointed if you aren't one of the .001% who get below 2400.

You are very good. Your SAT is going to be fine. I just want to state that a perfect SAT is not a guarantee for an Ivy League admission as essays have a lot of weight. What I mean is one might have a 2400 and screw up on the essays and another might have a 2200 and have better essays. the 2200 will probably be in. Admission interviews also carry weight. Get coached late in your senior high school year for face to face interviews. The high SAT though does give you an inside track for a merit based scholarship of the kind which many colleges offer. You wil most likely still have essays to do for those also. But you sound in real good shape.

Okay Hun, listen, SATs are for getting into college. As for as how long, that really depends on the test. My Phsychology test lasted 4 hours. And I got a good grade. My advice for studying is to NOT STUDY IN A COMFERTABLE place, if you do, you wil most likely fall asleep. Make sure you are eating well, and getting proper nutrition. Your body isn't going to be able to take in any of your information you are studying if you are tired and hungry. About getting a perfect score, good luck! It isn't easy to get a perfect score. Even I didn't get a perfect score. Nerves were killing me ad it was hard to concentrate, but I did pretty well, you need to make sure you are ready for the test. Best of luck

It's not how long you study, but how well you study. There is a great book with study skills to die for called, "Becoming a Master Student." Look for it at online booksellers, the older editions of it could be very cheap. It is very auspicious that you are concerned about this already. It bodes well for your future.

with that score, at least an hour a day or 3 hours per week, but just prepping on your vocab and studying for those trick math problems.

By the end, you just half a perfect score :)

I got 2 perfect scores in math and reading, but my writing score was only 720, for a total of 2320. I only read this SAT guide, and that is how I got such high scores:

I recommend this guide to anyone seeking to get a higher score to get into a first choice college.

Don't be a nerd...

Overachieving really gives people a negative impression. I'm not saying don't do well, but don't be one of those kids that bitches about an A-. Yuck.
