"Several rows were empty in numerous upper-bowl sections at Joe Louis Arena, where the announced crowd of 18,712 was the smallest this postseason"

It astounds me that Hockey town didn't sell out during the playoffs. The Sharks playoff tix sell out in minutes and the cheapest seats are scalped for no less than $200.00.

Have the Pistons playoff games sold out?

I think the economy has a lot to do with it. In Detroit I hear that some houses have sold for what cars are worth.

In Silicon Valley our economy is very strong and the housing prices for MOST counties is still strong (not as strong as 3 years ago, but no bust in the housing bubble).

Yeah it is pretty embarrising when we can't even sell out a playoff game. Yet we did have the longest sell out streak in NHL history that just ended I believe, if not it was the longest sell out streak for that time. And the Wings do have the longest playoff appearance streak also, lets not forget about that. Oh and you conveniently forgot to mention how old the JLA is, and how few suits there are for corperations to buy, therefor they buy the lower level seats and don't show up. Plus you also forgot to mention the ridiculous prices for the tickets, and the low economy.

Oh, and for your "sharks dominated" stance, I'd like to disagree, A) they won by 2 goals, B), The two goals San Jose scored were in the 1st period , and C), Your now gonna use the shutout excuse, which I would respond to the answer of "The Wings had there first shut out earlier this season since a couple years, and is the second longest shut out streak in history".

And the thing is, is that I agree Detroit played horrible, probably the worste this season, with key injuries and young guys being called up, the funny thing is, is that we didn't loose TOO, badly to a great team such as San Jose

Alot of things you forgot to inform in your conclusion of "Detroit not being Hockeytown", so... suck it

"Dominate?" The Sharks were outshot 34-19! That is hard a domination. Had Nabokov not bailed them out of more than a dozen really dumb mistakes, things would have been really different. If the Sharks don't play better than they did tonight, they are not going to win the series.

You are right about the crowd, though, but it isn't the crowd that is the problem. There is a reason for it. The Red Wing brass is so over-confident in their team and its ability to attract crowds that they jacked up the prices on the tickets. Most people can't afford to go. So much for the salary cap supposedly resulting in cheaper tickets. What a joke!

Face it Carlyle out-coached Babcock and the Sharks played the perfect playoff road game. Wings could be golfing by next weekend. Hasek isn't the guy he once was and was outplayed by Nabokov.
Empty seats for a playoff game? Seems like the fans there don't believe.

yeaa..I was actually wondering about this too. I guess you could suspect the bad economy in Detroit-something like 50 businesses closing every week or so. Or the loyalty of Detroit fans has shifted towards the Pistons. I guess people in Detroit would rather pay more money to watch the team that is playing better.

Probably remember last series. Seems the Wings like to shoot and NOT score this year in the playoffs. Would you want to go to that? I'd be a little embarrassed. Although I'm sure that the bad economy and that the high costs of tickets is hurting them as well.

Motown is the name given to Detroit around the era of big car productions. Hence Motor City

The Sharks games are all sell -outs! you could not get a ticket if you tried. That is embarrassing Detroit could not sell out a second round game. shame

Yes it is quite sad, but really no one gave them the name Hockeytown but themselves so it really is rather meaningless and quite funny. I guess everyone is already jumping off the bandwagon. Judging by the fans responses, I guess fan loyalty means nothing. People make fun of Toronto fans for our undying loyalty but really its us shaking our heads at bandwagoners, only around when things are good, but one bad game and *poof*.

I am from Detroit, and I sure wouldnt pay to watch what i saw on TV tonight. I would rather spend $25, and go watch the Grand Rapids Griffins, since the Wings played like a minor league team, tonight anyways.
