You're doing a wise thing, the earlier you can plan, the more likely you are to find a great deal. If you can be flexible with your stay, you will save a lot of money by avoiding special events, large conventions and weekends.

NY NY has a great location. The rooms are nice but nothing special. If you like to sleep late you don't want to get an East facing(strip view) room, the Manhattan Express roller coaster can be pretty loud, especially in the rooms on lower floors.

IMHO you can do better "generally" for the same $$ at other hotels.

Whichever hotels you are interested in I would book a good deal as far in advance as you can through the hotel. Then keep checking at least once a week for lower rates. You can always cancel the first reservation and make another at the better rate.

I would go to any hotels web site that you like and sign up for their e-mail promotions. They will send you promotion rates, usually 2-3 months in advance.

you can access every hotel/casinos web site from here

I use these sites to compare rates with the hotels own web site. Many LV hotels will price match, if you find a beter rate online for their hotel.

I stayed at NYNY this past October. It was a nice hotel, not the plushest, but quite satisfactory. The pool left a little to be desired. It became quite shady early in the afternoon, and was not quite as big as some of the others on the strip. The hotel personnel were very friendly and helpful. The dueling pianos bar was a lot of fun and should not be missed. You are in the four corners area of the strip, and can walk right out the door to MGM, Ex Calibur, and the Tropicana. Since you are right on the strip, you can also walk to just about any of the other big casinos, or take the tram from the station inside the MGM. You will have a great time no matter what. Have fun!

New York New York has an awesome rollercoaster. Las Vegas is a blast especially in July when the temp reaches 120F. Definately do the buffet at Paris Casino. It is expensive ($30) but worth every penny (they have their own pastry chef : )

Just walk down th strip and take in all the sights. NYNY is a very nice casino, you will not be disappointed.
Check the weather, it can be very hot in the summer. I'm talking 120+ sidewalk temps.

New York New York looks decent. The best places to visit is the strip itself. It's gorgeous at night & great in the morning. Wonderful shops, but they're pretty expensive. =\ Unless you go to Meadows Mall (which is more local that any mall I know), it's expensive. Also, see some shows.
