It's my dad's jeep and one of the rods are about to blow. What's the best way to calm the engine down so I can return it back to my dad without him realizing I tore it up?

.People, I am not looking for a moral/ethical lesson. I know what the honest and right thing to do is. However, I was just wondering if there is a product or something that for the time being would settle down the motor.

So are there any products or quick fixes you guys know of that would help my situation

You could loosen the oil filter and drive it until the oil light comes on. Then call your Dad and tell him the light is on and ask him what to do. He will probably have it towed to a mechanic who will fix the leaking filter, put oil in it and discover the rod knock. You may escape being caught for the douche bag that you are. Your Dad may write it off as one of those unavoidable but expensive problems that happen from time to time. Christ, you may even get lucky and your Dad will blame it on the last guy that changed his oil. Why should you start taking responsibilty for your actions. The world owes you a living, right. What the hell he is only your Dad. Just another moron for you to use and take advantage of. My God your parents should be proud.

The only way to fix it is to offer to pay for the repairs...if you borrow something, you are obligated to return it in at least the condition it was given to you...

What did you do to it, anyway?

just face the music, you screwed up an engine, bad day, but now is your chance to show your father that you are willing to take responsibility for your mistakes. no doubt that he will still be mad but maybe he wont ground you until you are 30!!!

You can't. Bad rods (and rod bearings) will always be noisy. Just be an adult and own up to it.
