"A Time for Choosing Speech"????

Do cons like sociald really believe Reagan was born in 1980???

He was not. Reagan became a national figure in 1964 when he campaigned for conservative Republican Barry Goldwater for president. He made the "A Time for Choosing Speech" often. Reagan did in fact try to run for president in the 1968 election. Don't believe me? Look it up.

"1968 Reagan made a tentative run for the presidency, waiting until the Republican National Convention to announce his candidacy. He later joined in unanimously supporting Richard Nixon."

NOW BACK TO BASHING REAGAN:

"The war has strengthened domestic reaction. It has given the extreme right, the anti-labor, anti-*****, and anti-humanistic forces a weapon of spurious patriotism to galvanize its supporters into reaching for power, right up to the White House. It hopes to use national frustration to take control and restore the America of social insecurity and power for the privileged. When a Hollywood performer [REAGAN], lacking distinction even as an actor can become a leading war hawk candidate for the Presidency, only the irrationalities induced by a war psychosis can explain such a melancholy turn of events."
- Martin Luther King Jr, Domestic Impact of War, Nov 1967

Ruth,

Where does my MLK quote say Reagan was president? He said Reagan was the leading war hawk candidate for president.

LET ME QUOTE A RIGHT-WING SOURCE

"King said of Reagan, "When a Hollywood performer, lacking distinction even as an actor, can become a leading war hawk candidate for the presidency, only the irrationalities induced by war psychosis can explain such a turn of events."

""Do cons like sociald really believe Reagan was born in 1980???""

do you not read what I say? I said he ran for president in 1975-1976 .

How could he run for president when he had just barely accepted his term as governor.
I have looked it up. he ran in the primaries in 1976.

What you are referring to is his nomination votes at the RNC in 1968. In which he had some people wanting to nominate him but he didnt get a nomination. And regardless of that it was still after the MLK speech you keep quoting.

Now there may have been people talking about wanting Reagan to run but he never did at that time.

Ronald Reagan was a star for the conservative right and today the neocons still get on their knees and pray to Saint Ronnie. It's unfortunate that he had to die that slow death with Alzheimer's and according to some it had already started to effect him in his second term. When I hear the name Reagan all I can think about is an B rated actor who could deliver a pretty good line when the lights came on, I also think of the Iran/Contra deal that North wiggled out of.

He did not say Reagan was born in 1980. He said Reagan was the President in 1980, and so MLK couldn't have been talking about Reagan.

Conveniently, they are both dead. So we cannot ask them. But neither one of them died and left you boss.

Furthermore, I think they would BOTH have enjoyed being around socialid over hanging out with you.

effective element - Ken Mehlman had a framed image of discgraced Alabama governor and a couple of time GOP hopefull George Wallace on the wall of his place of work contained in the Bush Reichstag. Our father's Dixiecrats were the starting place of the popular day GOP. Lincoln, that unfavourable guy, rolls in his grave on an wide-spread foundation anymore.

They have selective memories like all their heros. The most recent example being Gonzo and his 71 I cant recalls. Thanks for Reagan bashing BTW because it wrenches my guts for people to go around wishing for the good old days. And somehow casting about and ending up with Iran Contra Reagan. The guy didnt get half of his crap exposed.
And credit for the cold war!!! Geezz thats a big stretch.
