Hi, I have been using the Evra Patch for more than 2 years. Currently, I am on my 3rd week of patch and am supposed to remove the patch on this Sun, 29 April to allow my menses to come. However, I am going overseas on Sun and would like to delay my period. Should I use another patch on Sun to delay it? This would bring me to 4 patches in a month. Or should I remove the patch as usual and take hormonal pills? Thanks!

I used to use the patch and there have actually been studies that suggest that skipping your period on purpose through birth control can be healthier for your body but that is still in debate. My only concern is the birthcontrol you are using. Areyou aware that the ortho Evra patch contains 60% more of the hormone that causes blood clots than the pill and is currently being sued because of the number of deaths and strokes etc that it has caused in women in their twenties. You may want to rethink your birthcontrol, but delaying your period for a week will not be harmful.

It is possible to use the patch for the 4th week, it won't cause any health problems in and of itself. However, I will caution you of two things:
1. Using birth control brings you a higher risk of developing a clot when flying for long periods of time. To combat this, occasionally get up and walk around the cabin, or at least stretch your legs and flex and relax your feet.
2. There still could be breakthrough bleeding. If your body is used to a certain cycle, there is no guarantee it won't go ahead and try to bleed. It would likely be less bleeding than if you tried switching birth control methods however.

You can go to the 4th patch, however you may have severe pms symptoms before and during your period. On a side note, you really should talk with your physician about switching your birth control. Ortho evra has been associated with clotting disorders resulting in a serious medical condition called a pulmonary embolism. My physician has refused to use it any more.

The contraceptive patch and ring have not been studied or authorized for menstrual suppression like oral contraceptives have. pondering the present bout of court situations surrounding the patch and its cardiovascular risks, i might desire to urge you to not use it to suppress your era till your medical professional tells you it incredibly is wonderful.
