Check out your library for books on money saving tips. The library also has old issues of Woman's Day and Family Circle that often have articles relating to living on less. I get videos from the library instead of cable tv and movie rentals. What you want to do is reduce your expenses by honestly looking at what you want versus what you need. Put your "extra" money into a savings account that you don't have access to. If you have a 401K plan available at work and your employer matches, put something into that plan with each paycheck and forget about it. Look at the value you get from your bills and trim what you really don't need. Do you need a home phone AND cell phone? Do you need all of the cable channels you subscribe to? I am not saying to go without and live like you're Amish but make an effort to live on less than you make. Put money away every pay even a few bucks. Consider increasing income by taking in a roommate or getting a part time job or business. Swap coupons with family and friends. Plan meals at home instead of restaurants. Bring lunches to work. Stay away from vending machines and trendy coffee shops. Don't be afraid to mouth the words, "i cannot afford it."

have the money electronically taken out of my paycheck each time I get paid - it's called "paying yourself first". I also have savings (401k) deducted from my paycheck, as well as child care and health care.
Put the money someplace where you can't get at it immediately - like ING direct, or Fidelity brokerage account - sometimes the 3 days it takes to get your money is long enough so that you end up not spending it.

Just make your own lunch's and try to eat cheap food and limit eating out. Its learning to save small amounts of money that you should deposit in a separate bank account.
