The term 3rd world is an old Cold War term meaning those countries that are under-developed (not industrialized), though it was never an actual term 1st world countries are those that are fully industrialized, i.e. all of Western Europe, the United States, Japan, and Australia. Again, not an actual term, but 2nd world countries are the old Soviet Bloc countries of Eastern Europe, the U.S.S.R., and China. Since the fall of the U.S.S.R. and the fairly recent rise of China these countries would no longer be considered "2nd world." The new and politically correct terminology describing the "3rd world," is "developing nations." It pertains to Africa, Asia, and the Middle East because, most all of the nations in these regions are markedly under-developed when compared to the industrialized world. These regions suffer from a lack of infrastructure, such as roads, a cohesive electrical grid, adequate sewage, and running water.

It's really a political term from the Cold War. All it meant was the countries in Africa, Asia, and the Middle East that were non-alligned with neither the West or the Eastern Communist countries. Although Communist China was a developing nation it wasn't non-alligned so it wasn't "third world". Examples of "third world" nations were India and Indonesia. These nations
were neutral. I hope this has been a help to you

3rd world countries are those that haven't or aren't able to embrace modern technology due to religious restrictions, lack of finances, ignorance, or a combination of these factors. there are many other reasons countries are in a 3rd world state, but these are probably the most prominent. btw, africa and asia are not countries, they are continents. the middle east is not a country, it's a region. the middle east cannot technically be considered a 3rd world area because that's where most ofthe world's oil is located, hence these bastards are filthy rich. oh, and don't listen to that dork who said it's not politically correct to say 3rd world. **** that pc bullshit.

its not politically correct to say 'third world' anymore. they were countries that were grouped together under that name cos they were thought to be less developed in technology, and lifestyle in comparison to the big western countries that profited from WW2 (the US, all of westen Europe).

now, most have realized that the third world countries weren't so much behind everyone else, it was more like, the big countries were/have been exploiting those countries natural resources or leaving them outtta trade agreements and other things like that.

It is actually politically inncorrect to call them " 3rd world contries" now. The are called "Developing Countries" So I guess they are still try'n to catch up to the real world.
