Divide by 3

x^2 + 8x + 16 = 0

x = -8 +- sq rt (64 - 4(1)(16) over 2(1)

x = -8 + - sq rt (0) / 2

x = -8/2 = -4

You could have factored:
3(x^2 + 8x + 16) = 0
3(x+4)(x+4) = 0
x = -4

Well, first divide out the 3 from each term.
You get x^2 + 8x + 16 = 0.
The quadratic formula now gives
x = (1/2) *(-8 + sqrt(0)) = -4
and
x = (1/2)*(-8 - sqrt(0)) = -4,
so
the equation has a double root at -4.
