Splenda is ok, but aspartme (found in diet sodas) should be limited. Also saccharine which is found in sweet n low isn't too great either.

Splenda is the 'best' as far as artificial sweetners go. It is made from sugar so is not all chemically.

Nope, I found that out once I got pregnant. months before I got pregnant I was told I had hypoglycemia and was told to go on a special diet and only use like splenda or sweet n low. I didn't have any problems until I got pregnant and started having really bad migraines. I've always gotten headaches, but these were awful. My midwife questioned me about certain things and it cameup that I used splenda, she told me to stop and she guaranteed that the really bad headaches would go away, of course she said I would probably have regular headaches but not what i was having. She was right, I went back to regular sugar and since then I don't get migraines anymore!! Now I've read up that artificial sweeteners wether you're pregnant or not are not good for you even in sodas. Now I just stick with regular sugar instead of artificial!! Good Luck!!

Do not use Splenda or Aspartame. Splenda and Aspartame are not good for you. They damage your organs, can cause seizures, severe headaches, etc...Since your body doesn't know what to do with Splenda or Aspartame, the molecular structure ends up turning into something similar to DDT. :|

Do you know how Splenda is made? It's made by soaking granulated sugar in bleach molecules. Now how "healthy" is that? Do you want another suprise? Splenda is manufactured by Johnson and Johnson.

Aspartame was discovered by accident in a chemists lab. I am not sure of how Splenda was discovered, however they are both chemicals not found in nature. They are not food substances and never were supposed to be put in foods. Aspartame was discovered by accident when the guy's boss asked a young scientist to test this substance. The scientist thought the guy said "taste" this substance. They discovered it was sweet and went from there. Aspartame and Splenda have both been shown to cause brain cancer over time, or cause the brain to have other problems over time.

As for sodas in general, they destroy tooth enamel and promote tooth decay

If you want a delicious diet drink, just make them at home yourself with a juice extractor and blender. If you want to sweeten something, use juice from a freshly crushed apple or a little bit of honey.

You may be asking yourself why this stuff gets to market if it's bad for us. Simple, the FDA doesn't work for your or I, It works for the corporations with the big bucks (billions of dollars) I know it's sad, but it's true...

There are people in our government who are literally on the payroll of pharmaceutical companies.....disgusting. You can do a search right now for 60 minutes videos on cbsnews.com or google or youtube to find out more about this information. Please check out the link I mention below too

Splenda is actually the only "artificial" sweetner that is safe during pregnancy. Its "real" name is sucralose, and when they say its "made from sugar" it really is, closer than that actually. Splenda IS sugar, with a few molecules changed so your body doesn't metabolize it as sugar. Its also safe for diabetics because its not metabolized by the body. Its just as safe in pregnancy as the real thing, but without the calories. As with everything though, have it in moderation. I believe AnYTHING can be bad for you if you have tons and tons of it. Even water is toxic when you drink way too much. But as long as you are reasonable...go ahead, ENJOY!

I would not advise any sugar substitute, pregnant or not My husband is a diabetic and he started taking Splenda and a month or so later- his blood sugar shot up higher than it ever has been- and also could hardly move and get out of bed- we thought he had nerve damage in his back- one day he just decided to stop the substitute to see if it made any difference- within 2 weeks he could walk again and his blood sugar level went down. Check out websites on sugar substitutes- it is scary

If I were you I'd think of that childs body developing inside of you, you need to give him/her the best nutriants that you can. stay away from all man-made chemical substitutes of any kind and stay away from processed foods as much as you possibly can. Its only 9 months out of your regular eating habits so try as hard as you can to eat wholesome foods, 12 grain breads,2% milk, fresh fruits and fresh vegtables, fight the good fight against the sweets but don't deny yourself 2 or 3 times a week a doughnut or candy bar just don't go crazy! Do this for the full 9 months then you can indulge in that first dinner after giving birth. Follow this and you'll give birth to a very healthy baby that will grow to be a healthy adult.

I had gestational diabetes when I was preganant and so I thought sweeteners were the way to go as I also have a sweet tooth...however my diabetes educator said that I should rather have a liitle sugar or honey as a substitue as opposed to artificial sweeteners...they're not good for you at all, pregnant or not.
The advice worked for me...good luck and a safe and healthy pregnancy

No!! I recently heard splenda is sooo bad for you I wouldn't even take it if I wasn't pregnant. You can eat other things that are sweet but it doesn't have to be splenda. I think I heard that it messes up your organs but im not 100% sure.

No, no, no! Do not use anything artificial. Sugar is much better for your baby than chemicals. Artificial sweeteners cause mental retardation--phenylalanine is a very common one.
