People who are talkative in order to gain attention are often suffering from low self-esteem issues. It's a desire to draw more attention to themselves through being excessively talkative, although it usually has an adverse effect as people tend to become annoyed with this personality type. In addition, there is a common saying: "people tend to talk about what they lack." With a lot of my patients who are talkative, I notice trends in what they talk about. Often they'll mention expensive items, like cell phones, designer purses, etc., if they had a poor economic status during their childhood. Initially, people who are very lonely in life will talk about how many friends and family they have. Next time you encounter one of these talkative people, just know that they're desiring attention from low self-esteem, and then you should listen to what they have to say. You'll find out a lot about what makes them tick.

Nor necessarily. Some people are extroverts and they are talkative and animated. That's just who they are usually. I like extroverted people. Then again it can get to the point of being obnoxious, like someone who starts talking and never stops to let anyone else get in a word. That's a different story. That kind of person is craving attention. They may have not gotten the attention they needed at some other point in their lives. These people crave being the center of attention.

I think that's a bunch of potatoes. Untrue.

Laughing/talking/socializing is normal. NORMAL. You're not losing anything.
