what is the best firewall protection i can get for my windows pc, and another for my imac ?

Me and my brother are looking for some firewall software thaT WILL PROTECT US WHILE WERE ONLINE CAUSE WE DONT KNOW IF ANYONE IS USING OUR INTERNET AND STUFF LIKE THAT. wE JUST NEED SOME GOOD FIREWALL SOFTWARE.

I heartily agree with throatofwinter's recommendation and give a hesitant recommendation for ZoneAlarm (when I've used it in the past, it seemed overly complicated for the typical home user, although it is a good product if you can learn to use it). I would also add Kerio personal firewall to the list of products to consider. It is free for personal use, and only $20 for the fully registered version if you want the extra features it offers. Unless you know what you would need the extra features for (you can read the comparison on the source link below), just stick to the free personal version and use the simplified install.

Do not believe those who tell you the free software is no good (as the poster above me has done). After years of working in the computer security industry, I've learned that the most frequently used and most highly rated security products are almost always the free-software versions. If you spend time researching commercial vs. free/open-source security tools, you can easily verify this. There are a lot of good commercial tools, but to write all free-software off as inferior is deceptive and usually wrong information.

For your MAC..you are very protected there.....

For your Windows PC...Just think about this for a second...if FREE programs and store shelf protects were protecting our computers ....would we be at war with cyber crime? Each PC that is not protected is scanned atleast 17 times a day! People are fooled with these 'protections' that they are being protected...they are not! Out of all of the individuals that are online ONLY 10% are actually protected! The other 90% ARE NOT! And if you are not using Corporate Level type of security ...YOU ARE NOT PROTECTED PERIOD!
