obviously u've never set thru a light that never turns green for u unless a cage just happened to pull in behind u having enough metal to trip the sensor. there's no 'official' law on the books greenlighting a bike to just blow thru a light. only in very special circumstances can a bike go thru.
the bike unable to trip the sensor
the bike doesnt get the green for over 3 cycle changes but thru traffic does get the green, or it takes a cage rollin up behind him to trigger it
the rider still has to verify he can make it safely. u just cant roll up to a light, and because it didnt cycle the first time, u can just blow thru it.
its been known that some sensors just isnt sensitive enough to be triggered by bikes. sometimes the dot can make the sensor more sensitive, but if no1 tells them there's a problem, then it will never get fixed.
there was a thing about this a couple yrs back on hcg, but i cant find it now.

It seems like most of the people answering this question have never been on a bike.
These laws are passed on a state, not federal level but it varies. Here is some info on the law in Idaho:
http://www3.state.id.us/oasis/2006/S1367.html
It is not unheard of to make allowances for motorcycles to treat steady red lights as stop signs if they do not trip the light's sensor.

Federal Traffic Vehicle Code (FTVC) chapter 7, section 8,
verse 69, Ecclesiastics 21:12: It shall be made law that all motorcyclists may proceed through red-lights when safe to do so, and no traffic is in front of said motorcyclist. Electromagnetic traffic detectors are not activated by the small metallic mass of a motorcycle.

I've heard about this. What i heard is that you can run it if and only if you have been there and the light won't turn and that absolutely nobody is coming. I wouldn't take my word for it though, and i also wouldn't do it. I'd rather be stuck behind a red light that having the DOT scraping me off of the asphalt

In my state the lobbyists are working for a bill that would allow bikes to safely run red lights that don't change for us after they cycle through twice.
Its not law, though.

You may be thinking about the newer law in some states that allows you to ride through a left turn signal if the light goes through a few cycles and does not let you turn, because your bike did not trip the sensor? Check your local laws on that one.

Not particularly. But, you are allowed to proceed if the signal is broken -- that is, you don't have to wait forever for a red light that lasts forever.

HaHaHaHaHaHaHa!!!!!!!
Even if it were a new law, I wouldn't run the light. How is the traffic with the green light supposed to know you are coming? Sounds like a good way to wind up dead.

no i don't think there's such a law... it doesn't make sense, I know there's intersections where public busses have a special light when they can go and everyone else's light is red, however, motorcylces are dangerous as it is and unless there was a special light as there is for busses, then it wouldn't make sense...sorry.
