I am running for class president in school. It's for next year, which is junior year for me. I have to make a convincing speech next week. I'm not the most popular person in school. Without use of profanity, what should I say in my speech to capture the attention of the audience (rest of the class) and gain more votes?

Be as funny and confident as you can, write some GOOD jokes, emphasis on making them great jokes about whatever topic you are talking about. Be strong, be brave and be knowledgable. You should be fine.

Much depends on the content of your presentation. An eye-opener remark should parallel the topic. Since your class is mixed male and female you must keep it clean, but sometimes an unusual joke can precede and correlate to your talk.

Or plan a short skit with another student's cooperation that would raise attention, such as a friend of yours marching from the back in military form to stand before you, do an about-face, and say to the class, "By the powers to be I hereby nominate this candidate as class president! Vote for him or settle for less!"

Just as your friend appeared, he can salute the class, then you, and resume his place in the rear of the class.

It isn't essential you follow this exact form, but look for ways to charge the classroom into direct attention.

Above all, keep it clean and proper.

How about an educational, intelligent, passionate speech with a lot of humor (not dirty humor)? If you're not popular, you still might not win but at least you didn't make a jerk of yourself.
