I mean the winter in the US has been so cold, isn't Global warming, suppose to mean warming, not frezing???

Where I live in the upper midwest, it was warmer than average all winter until about mid-February. Then, it wasn't all that much colder than average.

Weather and climate are two different things. Weather refers to what's happening today, what happened yesterday and what will happen tomorrow in a localized area. Climate is much broader in scope and refers to overall trends in a much wider area. In weather 1 or 2 degrees from average is pretty insignificant. In climate that much difference from average temperature over the entire world in a year becomes much more significant.

The polar regions are the areas that are warming the most. And, this is most significant because the polar ice caps help keep the earth cool by reflecting sunlight. As the polar caps melt and brown earth is exposed, they will heat up even more.

The warming of the globe in general causes dramatic shifts in currents, therefore shifting weather patterns so that where it used to be cold (ex. here in canada), it is warm, and where it used to be warm it is colder - also causes hurricanes where none were before, floods and droughts, drastic changes throughout the planet...
