No I'm of an age where young women didn't cut themselves nor do I and I don't know anyone who does.

Why do they cut themselves, I've heard it said to dull the pain they feel on the inside so they let their blood spill.

Kids today are under enormous pressures, different from what my generation experienced, but no less traumatizing. I think tho we as boomers weren't so isolated from the world as young people today seem to be despite all the polls that say they're closer to their parents than previous generations.

I think young people both males and females need more mental health practioners and facilities and outpatient clinics to deal with their mental health issues and cutting to me is a mental health issue.

If my friends had been cutting in my day would I have done it . I can hear my mum saying to me if all your friends are jumping off the bridge does that mean you HAVE to do it too, you got more brains than that , don't use that line ever again.

And so I say it to young women today, just because your friends are doing it , you DON'T have to!

Have you ever cut yourself? yes

Do you know someone who has cut themselves? see absve, and yes, i've also known other people who have

How many people do you know who has cut themselves? I don't know. I expect that most of them cut where others can't see and probably do not talk about it.

Do you think it is right to cut yourself for any reason? I don't think it's an issue of 'right' or 'wrong'. It's not a healthy thing to do, but it is probably healthier than many other'coping mechanisms'....

Why do you think they cut themselves? Some do it for attention. Others do it to take thei minds off the emotional pain. Me, I felt so bad on the inside thatI couldn't standfor it not to showon the outside....even though I kept it hidden, I at least took comfort that the 'mark' was still there.

Would you cut yourself if your friends started to? No, I don't tend to give into peer pressure or associate with groups who get together to do destructive things. I would encourage my friends to get help or, if they were just being the stupid emo posers who will cut where it is obvious just to get attention, I would pobably no longer associate with them

1. No way! My friend was like, "I know how to cut myself!" and she pretended she had a paper clip and ya know...I rolled my eyes and told her that I've known that for about two years. (i'm two years younger than her -_-)
2. Nope.
3. I know nobody who cut themselves.
4. No, I don't think that physical pain will relieve any emotional pain that the person is experiencing inside. Cutting yourself is just trying to show off to other's that it doesn't hurt but you know that you are hurt deep inside.
5. I think they cut themselves to sort of show off that they can take pain. Physical pain.
6. No way...I am not having little cut marks around my wrists!

No, I have never cut myself. I don't know anyone who has cut themselves. It is not right to cut yourself. It is self-mutilation and the sign of someone who ultimately may have a death wish or at least the wish to severely punish themselves. I think it may be because no one has ever made them feel valued and precious, so they don't know how wonderful and unique they are. They need to ask for the help they so desperately need. They need to ask for the love they desperately seek.

I would not cut myself if friends started to. I would try to help them find the path to self-worth and happiness so they would no longer feel the need to mutilate themselves.

Have you ever cut yourself? no.
Do you know someone who has cut themselves? yes.
How many people do you know who has cut themselves? one or two.
Do you think it is right to cut yourself for any reason? no, unless you're like, chained to a poll against your will, and you cut your hand off to get loose. in this case, it's understandable.
Why do you think they cut themselves? because they have seen people [in the media] who talk about cutting themselves to feel a sense of relief, and usually those people have a certain emo/dark/gothic stereotypical image, and they want to be seen that way.
Would you cut yourself if your friends started to? um, no.

Most people suffer from depression. Some want attention. Some do it to conform. Some do it to follow the saying "If I bleed, I'll be ok.", meaning that you're so down and depressed that the only way to tell if you're alive is to see the thing that helps keep you alive.
No, I cut myself before anyone that I knew did.

Afternote: I've stopped. And have been clean for a couple months!! Woo!

Yes. I only met her once, but she was very open about her cutting.
1.
No. Not under any circumstances.
I think people who cut themselves are mentally unstable. From my experience, people who cut themselves are experiencing a severe separation of thought and affect. They are feeling pain, but they are unable to properly express that pain. Most of my patients tell me that they cut in order to fully feel the pain and to fully feel alive.
No. Not under any circumstances. I respect my body too much.

I knew someone who did, I have heard of one other person. Its never right to mutilate yourself. Ever. They don't seem to know exactly why they do its, but they offer some sort of balance of pain theory real physical pain v psychic pain, it didn't make sense. I have no real idea why they would cut themselves. No, it lacks all charm for me.

Right or Wrong I cannot judge another person's pain. Cutters need to cut to release. Is that wrong? no, but is it good to do? No.
See above answer
To release the pain they are feeling. The Same reason drinkers drink, hair pullers pull out their own hair strand by strand. It's all release of built up tension and pain.
No.
