The hard painful part is really done for you. If the retainer is fit properly to your mouth when they do the mold, you shouldn't have any pain, except for maybe the first day or so that you get them. Not nearly as bad as say, getting your braces tightened.
They felt very odd at first. You will find that you keep pushing them up with your toungue. you can talk with them. takes a bit to get used the them. You will have issues with the letter S and the TH from words like "this".
You can eat with them, though I would recommend that you don't. It gets messy and food can get stuck everywhere. Definately don't chew gum.
as far as care, you just need to brush them with toothpaste. Unless in the last 20 years they have come up with something new.
If you follow your orthodontist's instructions, the retainer will help you "set your smile" so to speak. I did everything I was told, wore them all day every day for however long, and then at night only for about 4 years. And my teeth are still looking good. My brother on the other hand kept breaking them, losing them, not wearing them. And his teeth are back ot how they were pre-braces.
YOu can even ask your doctor for funky colors, mine put stickers in side mine.

The hard part is over for you! The retainer is easy, just take care of it...not a big deal at all. As someone pointed out, you will have funny speech for a few days but that will pass and it will be easy. Take it out to eat or clean and keep it in the rest of the time.

ok dont worry about a thing!!! its all gonna be ok because i bet that you will look sooo gorgeous without your braces!! anyways, they feel weird when you first get them in. if you are getting the clear one, they are easier to wear because you can talk with them in right when you get it. all you have to do with that one is just clean it with water, soap (yes ik it is gross but that is how you clean it!) and a toothbrush. if you are getting the other retainer that one will make you talk weird for the first few days that you wear it. you want to use toothpaste and a toothbrush to clean this one. both of them will not hurt if you wear it when you are supposed to! if you dont they will hurt because then your teeth have to move back into place. you can't eat with them in. (for both retainers)
congrats on getting the braces off soon!â¥

Retainers arn't as bad as you think.
They shouldn't hurt, unless the dentist made it wrong.
You will be able to talk, at first you might not be able to say your S's but after a couple days you will.
You cannot eat with them (usally)
You have to brush the retainer, that part sucks but you will get used to it.
Don't worry

no i use to have one [the ones you clip on and off] you take them off to eat with [unless you want food filled retainers] they do NOT hurt at all its just like putting in a hair clip. just like braces u forget that there there [and with out the painful part] if you have questions about taking care of them talk to your dentist ..OHH AND DONT FORGET TO ASK YOUR DENTIST FOR COLORD RETAINERS!!! lol
