I watched it once, years ago. It is boring and the language is pretty graphic. I didn't care for the movie and came away with the feeling it was just a poorly made movie about a bunch of dumb, ethnic rednecks.
I spent 3 years in Southeast Asia and I could not identify with their supposed experiences... we were not in the same place on the globe at the same time... my experiences were totally different.

Remember the times in which it was made. Yes, it is depressing and I dont want to see anyone get killed but the purpose of the movie was a protest against the war in Viet Nam.
I just happened to watch this in the last 2 weeks, while at Turkey Camp.

Yes, the deer hunter is the most depressing movie of all time.
By the time they're singing in the bar at the end, you feel like putting a gun to your own head.

'The Deer Hunter',with Robert de Niro and Meryl Streep,is one of the best films that I have ever seen.
It was sad,but I was not depressed by it.

Yes I have. Yes it was. To many empty lives, much to somber in tone, but extremely well acted and filmed.

yea, it's a shame how this country sends young boys off to see horrific things and then expects them to be normal when they get back.
