I have an assignment where I have to respond to an issue. Something controversial like abortion. But, I don't really want to focus on that or gay marriages. Any other ideas?

Gun control, Iraq, profiling (whether it's racial or otherwise...like the programs to identify "bad" kids in school who are likely to be "school shooters"), the glass ceiling, petroleum consumption, keeping animals in zoos, the role of fast food/other vendors in obesity, physician payoffs by drug companies, rain forest destruction for cattle production, coffee plantations that are causing mass extinction among birds and small mammals, sweatshops and child labor, the employment practices of Wal-Mart...

...yeah, pretty much everything is controversial. Don't forget affirmative action.

Video games are promoting violence in teens today.

The lottery is a tax on idiots who think that they will win. Better to do away with the gambling and spend the 'saved' money on roads and schools. (Much gambling leads to other subsidiary evils - men spend their pay checks b4 getting home, booze it away when they did not win the lottery - - - etc etc)
