The Confederate constitution is almost a duplicate of the United States Constitution except for a few changes. But I’m only going to cite the slavery portion of the Confederate Constitution. The Confederate Constitution included a states rights provision. Slavery was “recognized and protected” in the Confederate States, but importing slaves “from any foreign country other than the slave-holding States or Territories of the United States of America” was prohibited. Otherwords the Slaves that were in the US were the only slaves allowed in both the Union and the Confederacy. President Lincoln never did propose any federal laws prohibiting slavery in the Union neither.
Now ,although this is off subject, I want to go a little deeper into the Civil War and the reasons why it started.
The Confederacy had an understanding that anything within its borders was its property. This includesd Fort Sumter. The Union would not give this fort up so therefore the Confederacy would take it over by force. Although the Confederacy threw the first stone it was for a justifiable reason (at least in my eyes). Now by this time the Confederacy was doing rather well on their own, even though they had financial troubles. They established their own exports and imports along with their own taxing system. They also had their government established with all three branches of government. They were doing rather well until the Union started their blockade on the Confederacy and later proclaimed war.
This is as far as I’ll go because most people have knowledge of all the battles of the war and the end result. But in my eyes the Confederacy was minding their own business and trying to get what was theirs when the Union started the war. The Unions main reason for starting the war was because they found it “illegal” to succeed from the Union. Now granted there is a law against that but it is when the law was made that makes the whole basis for the Union’s reason of war contradictory. This succession law was not passed until 1861. The Confederacy was established in 1860-1861. There proves that the Union was looking for a reason to start the war because the Confederacy had already started to succeed before the law was passed.
Now with this being said I am going to turn to the “Confederate Flag” and its true meaning.
The Navy Jack flag, which is erroneously known as the Confederate Flag, does not stand for racism. The thought of racism or support for slavery related to the Navy Jack Flag did not come about until the Civil Rights movement nearly a century after the Civil war. The Navy Jack Flag politically stands for rebellion, patriotism, self-determination, dissent, freedom and liberty. The Navy Jack Flag can also be seen as a flag of treason, which is one of many similarity between the American Flag (during the revolutionary war) and the Navy Jack Flag. The American Flag stands for a lot of the same things the Navy Jack Flag stands for. Racism was just as much part of the North as it was the South.
Now I did not fabricate any of this. I took it straight out of the encyclopedia and I researched this for 2 hours. Feel free to do research yourself.

1. Northern states made the south pay higher taxes and tariffs.
2. US army started to send troops into southern cities to enforce it.
3. The South believed they had the right to leave the union, just like the American Revolution.
4. The North believed no state had that right.
5. The south believed that the State( where u lived) should come before the Federal Government,
6. In 1861, the south attacked Ft. Sumter, SC.
Slavery was a non-factor at the outbreak of the war. Most southern families were to poor to own slaves, and only fought because federal troops invaded their homes. Lincoln freed the slaves in 1864, almost three years AFTER the war has been started. He did this, because he was running out of troops, and if he freed them, he could make all ***** units, and have them fight in the war.(As in the Glory) Enjoy!

basically, tensions between the north and south like the fact that they have totally different economies and believe different beliefs. Ex Kansas-Nebraska Act (increased tensions because enemies would now live together and the North was problaby mad because it opened slavery in the West.) The Dred Scott decision (every principle the Republican party was founded upon was now gone cause it declared Congress could not ban slavery in any federal territory cause it was a persons right to own propert and slaves were considered property) Election of 1860 - south didnt even vote for him and he won) John Browns raid (showed how far northern abolitionists would go and the killing of innocent southerners also made the south angry) the attack on Ft Sumner - was the start of the civil war, when Charles Sumner was attacked in the Senate by Preston Brooks because of his critisim of slavery and insluting comment to Pickens Butler,
also antislavery books that were published like Uncle Tom's cabin (made the north more aware of slavery's cruellness and angered the south by printing "lies" and making there way of life seem bad even if it was) The Fugitive slave act angered northerners alot because it forced them to turn in runaway slaves, the way the slaves were trialed was unfair and the fact that many free African American's (who were never slaves) were sent down to the south, the Wilmot Proviso showed how split the country was too.
SLAVERY was not why the Union went to war, they wanted to keep the union together. Also the reason why that law came out after the south seceded was because it takes a while to get it passed.

Cvil War. this is one of those wars with lots of names to it. Arguably, most accurately I would call it "War Between the States."
Reasons off the top of my head why War started are: war started because of state's rights. another is issues of slavery. culture/society. What type of government to live under.
Fort Sumter: April 12, 1861. North surrenders because ammo/supplies/food ran out. This is the beginning of the Civil War. 1st shots fired from the South. Fort Sumter was an island; a harbor off of Charleston, South Carolina. No one died. Abraham was not going to keep that fort anyways, just wanted the South to shoot first.
But, we also have to consider Henry Clay. He prevented a war on several occasions.
The North should win within 6 months- 1 year. But, 1861-1865 was how long the War lasted.
Presidential Election of 1860. 4 canidates:
Stephen Douglas. (Northern Democrats)
John Brekenridge, (Southern Democrats)
Abraham Lincoln, ( Rep. party)
John Bell. (Consitutional Union Party)
Abraham's vote- all North votes. Not 1 single South vote. This should tell you something.
When Abraham becames President, He is ruling with absolute power. pretty much, dictator. The US Constitution is suspended. No rights. After the war, Abraham did give power back. US Constitution in affect. If you protested about the war, you went to jail without trial. Abraham was not messing around.
Clement Vallandigham was the most out-spoken Northerner protester. No trial, he goes straight to jail. He kept on protesting until Lincoln kicked him out of the country; exiled him.
Butternut Region-Area where they wanted Lincoln to stop the war.
Trent Affair- Trent was a British ship. This almost got British in the War. Lincoln, smart enough, puts the 2 dipomats back on the ship, and lets the ship sail to England.
Arguably, Lincoln fought the War to preserve the Union. He wanted one country, not two.
Abolish slavery came only half way into the War.
There are many battles. Basically, South wins these battles.
Battle of Bull Run. Here we learn about General Thomas "Stonewall" Jackson. "Standing like a stonewall." How he got that nickname.
Battle of Bull Run--The Union were so cocky and so much over-confident that civilians followed them and watched the battle. Union lost. The North learns that it is going to be not a short, but a long war.
President Lincoln fires one general after another after another, hiring new generals.
Abraham hires General McCellen. McCellen is an idiot. Lee is smarter. McCellen plans were to take Richmond, capitol of South. Lee lets him get really close, almost to the outskirts of Richmond to get him at his highest confidence, and pride. McCellen sends troops to Shannon Doe to trick Lee. Lee plays along, and sends troops over to Shannon Doe. McCellen is forced to retreat from Richmond area.
Lincoln heres about this, he fires McCellen and hires General John Pope. He is no better than McCellen.
2nd Battle Bull Run. Lee wins easily.
Lincoln fires John Pope and re-hires McCellen.
Abraham gives General McCellen a 2nd chance and re-hires him.
McCellen finds Lee's battle plans wrapped around a cigar. Still, McCellen almost loses against Lee.
I mean, McCellen had Lee's playbook in his hands, yet McCellen almost loses!
Military Draw; minor victory for the Union because Lee retreats. Lincoln finds out, and fires McCellen for the last time.
Battles continue. Abraham hires another general, Gen. Ambrose Burnside. Battle of Fredricksburg on December 13th, 1862. Confederate victory. Here, so many Union got shot, the Confederates got sick of shooting and stopped shooting and let the Union army retreat. General Burnside is fired, and Lincoln hires a new general.
Battle of Chancellorville. Here General Joseph Hooker of the Union army gets one shot at Lee. He loses. Lee wins.
I know I digressed from reasons why Civil War started. Nevertheless, I hope yall enjoyed reading.
