Tests are worth 95% of my grade and I study hard for them but it seems like on every one, there is something I forgot to study for, even when I go over them with a fine-tooth comb!!! My teacher doesn't allow extra credit...what can I do to bring up my grade to an A?

You can't forget to study for part of the exam if you actually go over the chapters in the text being tested over while you study. Study each part of the chapter(s) piece by piece as you proceed from start to end. Compare them to your notes to see if your teacher embellished information touched upon in the text with their own examples. Sometimes teachers don't like the way a text treats a particular topic and so will opt to present it their own way. Also, check your notes to see if there were things the teacher taught which are not found in the text at all. Another thing to do is to read and make sure you comprehend charts, diagrams, cross-sections, or anything else which will contribute to understanding the material. You should do this several days before the exam, so that if you have questions, you can ask the teacher for clarification before the exam. If a lab is involved, review slides, and any other lab related material. Ask for clarification on any material you don't understand from lab also. I'm sure there are many other things you can do to bring your grade up, but I can't think of any others off the top of my head. Good luck with your biology course. I understand how difficult biology can sometimes be, because I was a double major in biology and mathematics. Now I am more heavily interested and invested in mathematics.

Look at your previous test questions and see how your teacher asked them. Some teacher ask detail questions, while others ask understanding questions. The way I study for a class is by understanding what my teacher will probably asked based on his/her style of asking questions. If your teacher ask for the name of a scientists, then I try to remember who did what in that experience. If my teacher usually ask explanation questions, then I try my best to understand the concept of the unit.
