I'm not sure you can learn enough this week to qualify for that type of job. You need to be familiar with medical terminology and abbreviations first. You may be able to study some of this online or at a library, but it's hard to find codes for illnesses or procedures that you don't understand. It is all looked up in code book, but depending on the doctor, it is not always easy to find what terms they want. The codes are their way of being paid, and the tiniest mistake can make a big difference to them!

You can search CMS.gov for information on medicare/medicaid reimbursement. You can also search for information on BCBS and other insurance carriers in your area. There is very little you can do in a short period of time to prepare yourself. There is a great deal to learn and understand when it comes to billing for services rendered. I am an H.I.M. professional and process the information before it gets to the billing process. I hope this helps. You can also do basic searches online for patient accounting functions.

If they are willing to interview you without you having prior billing experience then they are willing to train. So just be presentable and state that you are willing to learn and are interested. Good luck to you.
