An African...Which ones? The ones that were taken as slaves or the ones that captured members of those tribes and used them as slaves...

The ones who captured and enslaved the other Africans probably thought that the beginning of the African to European/American slave market was a golden opportunity to get rid of some unwanted neighbors and make a handsome profit (many African tribes use defeated warriors and their families as slaves, but if they have too many they will simply kill them.)

As far as the Africans who became the slaves are concerned, I'm sure they had little to say about it (other than it sucks to lose your freedom and become the property of someone else,) as they did it to their neighbors and it is the right of the victor to hold the lives of the vanquished...Unless you're White, and then its evil and cruel instead of normal as it was for Africans to own and sell each other, Europeans learned of slave trade from Africa (Genesis, Moses frees his people from the Pharaoh, Egypt used slavery, Hebrew and African and was considered the height of culture and civilization at the time.)

Since you say African rather than African American, I'd say that the slave trade was a big money maker allowing you to sell off prisoners of war at a profit.

They must have been scared and lived in fear of the traders... Though they where mostly black... But it's better to go to America than to be killed by the tribe next door...
