Our planet has hit a critical popluation number. Global warming, wars, crime, energy crisis, over development, polution, rain forest decline, species extinction are not going to go away as long as the population continues to grow.
It is amazing that the environmentalists, conservationists, and tree huggers do not realize this.
For instance, increasing MPH for all vehicles won't do anyting if the US population continues to grow at an expodential rate.
Think about India and China? With there population growth, it does not matter if cars get 200 mph, we are running out of oil.
Doesn't anyone get it? We have too many people in this world, and it is only getting worse.
Social programs, birth control, tax incentives all have to be promoted globally to lower the global population.
If we don't act, the world will become one big urban ghetto

I'm glad to see someone is taking this problem seriously.

The good news is that some nations like Japan have realized the bad that comes from overpopulation.

In the past, China was moving strongly towards birth control, but somehow lost their way. They understand the reality of the situation.

India is among the worst nations for this critical issue, yet it is far behind in action. Only the first efforts to raise awareness are moving forward.

And the US will add 100 million more people in less than 40 years!

That ain't right!

Where will the resources come from?

This prediction has been made before, and the 'certain social collapse at X population number' has been met, then exceeded, each time.

Technology advances, and more people are able to live within the limitted environments available on earth. Those technologies may not be theoretically sustainable, but they also change, as well as become more efficient. There was a time when the civilized world was lit by whale oil - the number of people in need of illumination today would have long since whiped out the whales, but, now everyone uses electricity, instead. In 80 or 300 or however many years it might take, depending on who you talk to, some means of generating electricity will have been exhuasted, but others may take their place, or lighting may no longer use as much (or any) electricity.

That said, I think environmentalist /do/ realize that the eco-friendly, sustainable world they want can't sustain 6 billion people. They may not like to admit it, but thier agenda includes defacto genocide on an unprecedented scale. It's mostly in the form of "well, I hope a good killer virus mutates into being pretty soon, so we can get rid of all these excess people" or "after the collapse of food production, the survivors will find sustainable methods..." rather than, "plans for the human-exterminator Mk V are underway" but, at least in the back of thier minds, they have to realize it.

To the person who wants us to colonize Mars: Please do look into the science of that. The people who go there WILL lose almost all of their bone mass, and never be able to return to earth. If they stay there for mare than even 11 months they may not be able to return.

You must also think that we can terraform the planet? Not possible. The planet doesn't have enough gravity to hold an atmosphere.

Back to the real issue:

The world is overpopulated, yes, but you need to get your facts strait. It does matter if our cars get 200mpg. Most of our oil is used on vehicles. For the brief period of time that we will still use oil in our cars, that would be more than enough. Once the newer, alternative fuel cars are popularized, there will be nothing to worry about. we will have enough oil.

Umm this is very shortsited...

even now Europe is almost at a standstill in population growth. meaning they are birthing almost as many babies as people are dieing. At the rate they are going they will start ot loose population in 20 years, according to some stats that I have read at various news agencies.

The US is slowing down too, it is only a matter of time before the US stagnates and starts heading backwards. Of course this will effect liberals first as they love to kill their babies.

The World will become one big Ghetto only if the Liberals/Socialists/Communists/Fascists/Nazi's get their way and enslave the world population to there utter an sheer lunacy.

yes... its true that certain parts of the world are over populated, however there are many parts that are not being occupied. think about all the farm land and empty spaces in the mid-west. people could move and live here. there is plenty of room for people in the world, people just dont live in the empty areas.

dont worry. most of your worries are groundless. the population numbers are self controlled- by food and health. Sure, it is not a pleasant way, but it has worked for several thousand years and works for all the other dominant species

The president is already working on plans to send people to mars in year 2012. Once that takes place, we can colonize it, and end overpopulation.

I suggest we start by not interfering with the death penalty. Why keep the scumbags alive when they are adding to the population problem... right?

I think you mean MPG? (miles per gallon) not MPH (miles per hour) also its not that easy to change the lives of how many BILLION people? Why don't you do something about it? rather then leaving it to someone else??

I say we kill the liberals first.

They're the only ones worried about too many human beings (and don't understand the rest of nature will breed and take our place when we're gone).

So when all the liberals are gone, the problem will mysteriously disappear. We need not kill any innocents.
