Get a little saucer of vinegar, mix in some salt, rub it on the penny and it will clean up great. Just be sure to rinse it all off when you're done. Vinegar is acidic and the salt is abrasive.

I have been collecting coins all my life , I collect don,t sell My Dad started the collection about 1947 and when I started working and making change , He told me what to look for and buy the early dates, Now I have a good collection and none of them have ever been cleaned , I would advise you not to clean it. It will be worth more money . Now by chance it is rare and you clean it you might loose a couple of hundred dollars, be careful good luck and don,t clean.

DON'T CLEAN IT!!!! Take it to a coin shop and let them tell you what year it is, or even if it is real. If it is real and you do clean it it could ruin the value of your Indian head penny forever. Rule of thumb for a coin don't ever clean, tone, or dip. it will devalue your coin(s). Take it from me I collect and sell coins.

You may laugh at this but I have used "Tabasco" sauce for cleaning cooper for years. Non-abrasive and it does a great job..I have old Revere Ware pans and it works well on them..
