Tell the people who got into tank battles on the initial push to Baghdad and who died fighting the Iraqi military, that Iraq had no army. We did beat that country in a few months, it was not marked by big battles though since most of their military fled across the border waving white flags before we even went into their country. We are in the security and reconstruction phase of the conflict now, and there is a new Iraq that we are trying to get set up so we can leave. But look at Europe and Asia, the "war" in those countries ended in 1945 but we still have bases there. The Senate did authorize the President to use military force to enforce the many UN resolutions that we were signatories to. We are not currently fighting "Iraq", they are helping us to secure their country. There are rebels there that we are fighting in addition to foreign combatants using this opportunity to strike against the country they have been taught to hate since infancy. But I cannot remember the exact piece of legislation, but there was one, in the '04 primaries all the Dems tried to make everyone forget they voted for it.

Below is the link for a well made documentary.
Great comments by current and retired military personnel. This is important especially for those of us who have served or who are serving and also those of you with children as someday we may see a draft reinstated and we should all be clear on what we are fighting for.
Democrats and Repubs should lay down party politics and get serious about doing the right thing so that the country’s citizens and the country’s soldiers are not put in harms way unnecessarily. Very well made documentary and a little hard to want to face.

Last I checked, Congress passed a resolution allowing the Executive to use force against Iraq. I haven't heard of any formal Declaration of War, as is required by the US Constitution..

Do we throw this term around too loosely?
Yes. In the US, 'War' is used metaphorically much more than it is litterally. The US hasn't faught a declared war in the last 60 years, but, it has made 'War' on poverty, illiteracy, injustice, racism, drugs, and, now, 'Terror.' So diluted has the term become, that we think nothing, now, of continuing to fight undeclared - but /real/ - Wars as if they were metaphorical ones.

No link.. but you only have to listen to Bush to hear him say.. over and over.. war on terrorism.. i assume that must be Iraq.. after all that's where he in his wisdom, decided he should start... however at this rate.. it's going to take a very long time.. he'll be long gone.. and our soldiers will still be dying
Wonder what he imagines victory to be.

Sighs...... Firstly, we are fighting against a guerilla insurgency, and it is more of a police action. You don't have to declare war to be involved in one.

Define power. It does not always mean military superiority.
