We already won when we took Saddam out of power. We've done what we can. Now I think we need to leave and let the people of Iraq decide their own fate.

An Iraqi Government and Infrastructure capable of self-governing, law enforcement and national defense. Actually I think the idea of forming independent provincial states that could govern under their particular tribal customs and traditions, Sunni, Kurd and Shiite with some restrictions of power or powers reserved to the National government. Gee, kind of sounds like Federal and State Governments don't it. I believe that before this can actually happen, the sectarian leaders need to concede that no one secular belief will obtain absolute control over all the people.

Well if Iraq has a self sufficient government including military and police.
What I mean is capable of running their infrastructure, policing their cities and combating insurgency and terrorism.
And if the bulk of the insurgents are arrested or expelled from Iraq, then I would call that a win.
Whether that will happen i dont know.

If we kill all the Iraqis, do we get to keep all the oil?
The short answer is that we have already won. SAIC made $8 billion in federal contracts last year. Look at the glorious profits of Blackwater, Titan, Aegis Defense Systems, CACI, Custer Battles (ok--they got fined big time), Halliburton, Bechtel...
Four HUNDRED BILLION dollars shifted from future federal income into current private pockets, just for starters. How is that anything but one big joyous win, discounting 3300 dead american soldiers?
On the other hand, a REAL victory would be a peaceful democracy and zero incidents of international terrorism conducted by Iraqis--much like the situation that existed prior to our unprovoked invasion.

A win would be educating, rebuilding, investing and babysitting the Iraqi people while giving them targets to shoot at until they put together a government strong enough to throw us out.
In other words - we would have to make a Colony out of them and put a LARGE standing army in their country. It would take resources away from our citizens and kill huge numbers of our youth.
Why do we want to do this?

We've already won the war in Iraq. What we are having trouble with is the instability from guerrilla warfare being instigated by Iran and Al Queda.
