They provided wipes for me to use in the hospital, so I have always used them, except for when he had a rash. I think newborns are a little more prone to nappy rash as they are getting rid of all that nasty gunk to start with. Their poo is like tar for the first few days. Very thick and sticky. (it was either that or perhaps the wipes they supplied were too harsh) I think if they do have a rash it can be aggrivated by wipes so until the rash passed I used a wet cloth. I have used baby wipes since and he's not had another rash. Thank goodness. You can get natural wipes, have a look around for something that will be gentle on the skin.

Wipes are fine, but save yourself some grief and get the hypo-allergenic wipes. That way if your little one has really sensitive skin you won't have a bunch of supplies that you can't use.
We always used a wet cloth when our son had a particularly messy bowel movement, because you can go through half a box of wipes easily getting all of that wiped off.

Acutally your not suppose to use wipes when there born. Just a wet cloth is fine. That's what i was told when i had my first son they told me not use baby wipes. And you can always double check once you have the baby ask the nurse she what she says. Everybodys going to say one thing or the other.

Wipes are fine as long as their not scented those can cause rashes. I've never heard of anyone saying you can't use wipes on newborns.

Wipes are fine. I always like Pampers wipes for sensitive skin or they may just say unscented. I used them on both my girls since birth who have sensitive skin and it never caused a problem. I think the wet cloth is harder on their skin because washcloths etc. are a little rough. I know this was not part of your question, but I think Huggies diapers are the best for not leaking. And they were the only brand that did not bug my girls skin. I know its nuts but I like Pampers for wipes and Huggies for diapers.

Look for the ones that say for newborns. Pampers has a great version and if you live next to a Target store, they have a great store brand version. They are just liket the Pampers one but cost less. No need to spend alot of something that is going to wipe up poop. You know...

With my first child,he's 12 now, they said definitely no baby wipes, when i went in to have my second child, shes 14 mths old, they said baby wipes as long as they are unperfumed are fine, neither of my children have ever had a nappy rash or sore bottom,so i suppose you use what ever is right for you,as long as baby is clean, thats your main concern, congratulations by the way.xx

My pediatrician and her nurse both told me to use wet cloths. I used the soft baby washcloths and would bring a little basin of water to the changing table. I had more laundry, sure, but my baby didn't get diaper rashes or irritations at all. I'm not saying wipes are bad, just letting you know what worked for us.

Wipes are fine for newborns and if your concerned about the scent they use then buy unscented....love, love, those wipes. They are so convenient...but your the mom and follow your own instincts.None of us are perfect mother's and usually follow what we think is best for our children...good luck with new baby

I have four children and I used wipes on all of them from the start. I opted for the Huggies Supreme Care with no dyes or perfumes.
