I just read Franz Kafka's short story, and I have to write...

what the heck is The Metamporphosis about?

I'm just looking for thoughts, opinions, and especially sites on what the big picture in the story is, or what people believe it's about. Any help would be great, thanks!

There are different interpretations, but the one that strikes me is that it is the experience of a person who comes down with a lingering, terminal illness. Different family members cope with it in different ways. As he becomes more unsightly and unable to act like a normal person, his family wants to care for him out of love or family loyalty or a sense of duty or social obligation, but this is a challenge for them because of the the changes in him. When he finally dies, it is sad for them but also a relief.
