OK you sure don't need be an Aspie to enjoy games, but do they take on a certain special attraction with Asperger's people? Any comments on this or your own experiences?

@Katsol: Could you elaborate on how your friend uses Aspergers/ADHD as an excuse. How sure can you be that it's not part of his condition. Peace out. thanks

@ Katsol: Thanks for the explanation. I'm guessing that he gets some sort of disability pension or parental support if he's not interested in working?

I've always enjoyed video games. I liked to play World of Warcraft because it's a whole social community built upon things I'm good at. Players with the best stuff and levels and tricks are the most respected and popular. As long as the conversation is focused on things within the game, I can do really well. I've been playing video games since I was 4. It's always been a social thing in my family. I've always sat and advised my dad on diffurent things in games and it's a good way for me to 'bond' with him. Like I said earlier, I love online games. I mean, who wouldn't like going from zero to hero? Also, I like the games like Final Fantasy because it's a good way for me to clear my mind of worries and focus on somebody else's problems!

Our son who has autism is into video games in a big way. Video games allow him to decompress from school and are a good way for him to calm down if he is especially agitated. There is no doubt he has a knack for them. I have seen him beat the game in less than a day, and using only the most basic of moves (no power moves or unlocking of secret moves or power ups.). He has a tendency to plan a game repeatedly, even after beating it and I am sure the repetition is comfortable for him. The online games like WOW allow people with aspergers to socialize in a world of thier own creation, in non-threatening ways. The games can have a place in these lives...as hobbies. But just like any other person, if this is the only way they interact with others or is the only activity they want to pursue, then it is time to try and get them to focus on other activities as well.

Well, SOME do. But it's a gross generalization to say that all aspies enjoy video games. And to go on to say that simplistic ones are more enjoyable is such a misunderstanding of disabilities much less the complicity and opportunity any game provides.
My son with aspergers does enjoy video games, tough ones, not just the retro atari wanna-be crap. Some of his aspie friends like video games as much as he, but I know at least four aspie's who don't play video games of any kind. And it really isn't as far gone as many neurotyps as I've seen.

Yes they are. I can be entertained by video games for a long time and it helps me relax. So I would say that people with Aspergers like video games.

My so called friend is always playing video games and hes got aspergers. But he uses his aspergers and adhd as a excuse to be really mean and down right rude, to everyone else... just really angers me...

Well since, he tells me that since "he has aspergers he isnt not normal"... he does it all the time.. Its like I tell him a over and over and over again not to try and hug me or kiss me or other things (and alot worst things). And then I finaly say if you dont stop that I will slap you. And then he says well I have this thingy so I didnt know? how could have not known when I told him hundred times over? I mean not just days but months on end ive told him not to do things. I've been telling him not to try and hug me since i meet him... and he says something like "but all girls like it" i mean yes some of this is part of his aspergers but there is a limit. everything is a excuse he doesnt go out and try and do stuff just stays inside his apartment day in and day out. Never leaves. and then says he cant get a job coz of it? when he hasnt even tried to do. I am really bad at explaintions but i hope i did it right?

He lives off the goverment in a apartment above the place where adults with down syudome live. got some caretakers to look after him too. so he lives good with about 10 computer to play with...

My 15 year old nephew plays video games after school until it's time to eat.He will stop to eat for about 15 mins and then will play games until bed so it about 7 hours a day.His parents are ok with it and he will stay home all weekend and will be up all night playing video games,When he was a toddler he would watch vhs's cartoons over and over.If the go to the movie theatre he will stay and watch the same movie 3 to 5 times.

I have asperger's and I like video games. If an Aspie has it as their special interest, they like it more than nonautistics probably.

I think it depends on the rest of their personality makeup. As with any person, some aspies are "right brained" or have a Myers-Briggs personality type that is more artistic.

As a kid I liked some video games but grew out of them quickly. Oddly I work in an engineering field surrounded by servers and computers all day, but have zero interest in video games.

No. You do realize that saying "I shower daily" is a very horrible thing to say as it implies people with Aspergers do not shower. Edit- I have a friend with Aspergers and she is as hygenic as the next 13 year old girl.
