Yes... but after WWII was well over, of course.

I was in the Netherlands (Holland) on vacation about 10 years ago. An internet friend was taking me around Rotterdam, showing me the sights. He kept referring to buildings as "before the war" and "after the war." I asked him what he meant by that distinction, and he said, "You know, when the Nazi's bombed the city. Some of the buildings survived the bombing."

I then began to cry. Having been born/bred in the USA, and until 9/11... (not counting Pearl Harbor, because that wasn't really American soil back then)... we'd never been attacked like that on our "soverign soil." I cried because I couldn't imagine my home being bombed like that.

Of course, when 9/11 happened, having been from northern NJ and seeing the Trade Towers looming in the distance, when they went down, I cried, and cried and cried.

I don't want to go through that again. But I also know there are at least SOME people around the world who also knew how WE felt on 9/11 and cried with us.
