Clemens, Maddux, Johnson, Glavine, and Smoltz are the no doubter's.

Martinez and Shilling will have a good shot after one or two ballots.

Pettitte has an outside shot just based on the fact that he's one of the best postseason pitchers of all time. He's tied for most postseason wins all-time with Smoltz (Both have 14). He's got 4 rings. And just 3 or 4 years ago there's not a single person here who wouldn't have traded half their team to have him on the mound for them in the WS. He was automatic.

Mussina, probably not.

As for the guy who doubted Smoltz as a first ballot....are you freakin' nuts?! The dude has unbelievable stats without even taking into account the years he lost to injury. And on top of his numbers he has the postseason (14-4), and on top of that in 2002 he became only the second pitcher in history to have both a season with 20 wins and a season with 50 saves(the other being Hall of Famer Dennis Eckersley). Smoltz is also one of only two pitchers with 150 wins and 150 saves (the other again being Eckersley).

If he doesn't make the HOF, then Cooperstown is a joke.

I agree, all but the last two will be there. Mussina has a shot if he plays for a few more years. He was dominate when he played with the O's back in the day. Pettite doesn't have the stats and he isn't going to play much longer, so I don't think he makes it. Clemens, Maddux, RJ, and Glavine will all make it on the first ballot, with Shcilling and Smoltz having to wait at least a year. I'd add Rivera and Hoffman to this list as well.

I would put them in three tiers. Clemens, Martinez, Maddux and Johnson are first ballot hall of famers. Glavine and Schilling might take a round or two, but shouldn't have a problem.

Smoltz actually outshines Schilling, but toggling back and forth between closing and starting cost him the gaudy career stats in both arenas. That said, being dominating in two roles means he'll get in eventually.

The last two are interesting. Mussina is underrated, and matches up favorably with Glavine in terms of career statistics. However, he has really failed to string together dominating seasons. If he can keep it going into his 40s, his stats will be tough to ignore.

Pettitte has some work to do, and it is unlikely he will get to the 3,000 strikeout plateau. He needs to pitch well into his 40s, but he can't afford for his ERA to sink any lower.

My guess is everyone but Pettitte.

Andy Pettite is the only one who won't make it. At one time he had the potential but injuries have limited his career. He'll never make it close to 300 wins, and 1700 stikeouts with a 3.8 lifetime ERA just isn't enough to make up for the lack of wins.

Mike Mussina might be a long shot but he's got the potential numbers to make it in (239 wins / 2576 K's / 3.64 lifetime ERA) and his high profile as a Yankee ace will help too.

Possibly everyone on the list. Mussinsa and Pettie will have to have a strong last 4 or so years. Roger Clemens will depend because of the whole steroids thing; but it Bonds gets in Clemens definitely will and vise verse.

Clemens and Maddux without a doubt since they have 300- Glavine will at the end of the year so he's in. I think Martinez and Johnson also make it.
