It depends. Now, this info is a few years old ;-) but at our local Carmike theatres at least 4 people would have to buy a ticket or they could return your money and not show the movie. The first time this happened to me. Me and a friend had bought tickets but no one else did. The manager came and explained it to us but we somehow managed to talk him into letting us see the movie...lol Then it happened again, and I thought, man we're not gonna get to see the movie but at the last minute 2 other people walked in and the movie started. had they not came in, me and my friend were gonna go buy 2 more tickets just so they would've sold 4 and show us the movie...lol But, like I said, that was then :-)

It depends on the policy of the particular theatre. Some of them require a minimum number of people in the audience before they'll show the film. To be practical, though, why would they show it if they didn't sell any tickets?

The best way to find out what they do at your location is to ask someone who works there.

No. Once my friend and I sat in a theatre for 20 minutes. They hadn't realized anyone was there, and didn't start the movie until we went and asked.

yes. they just pull it out of the theater quickly, but a movie that's commercially released must have a theater run.
