I've seen this a couple of times & it's hard to catch it,but if you have access to a scan tool,you want to monitor the trottle position sensor during the high idle.if the tps "sticks" the ecm (engine control module)does'nt know your at closed trottle,so it holds the iac(idle air control valve) open to lessen emissons when you do go "closed trottle" if the ecm does not see a closed trottle signal from the tps it will not comand the iac to control idle speed.another common cause for this is a open circuit in the 5 volt reference circuit for the tps & the iat (intake air temp.) sensor. the wire breaks inside the insulation right where it crimps onto the wire therminal. regardless the problem sounds electrical in nature

Sound like normal behavior. The engine was running in high RPM profile, so it kept the idle a bit higher to burn off any excess gas now that you slowed way down. It should drop back to the lower idle in a few minutes if not sooner.

My Ford used to do the same thing, A lot of people describe it as a "throttle hang" when it's computer trying to comply with the emissions requirements.

You need to adjust the idle speed on the throttle body. Its all electronic...if it doesn't work replace the throttle position sensor.

check the; air control valve, located on the throttle body.

The problem is you bought an alero.
I suggest you trade up to a KIA.

plugs and wires....something to do with firing....
