My company's stockholders are coming in tomorrow for their annual meeting. One of the other employees just bought an American flag hard hat to wear out in the shop. She was told not to wear it because a lot of the stockholders think the American flag stands for war and they are against the war in Iraq. I was angry when I heard this, so I purchased one at lunch today. I'm waiting for someone to say something about it tomorrow. What is your opinion of this whole scenario?

For the record, no one told ME not to wear it. My boss is all for it. He thinks if someone doesn't want the American flag around, they don't need to work there. It is another executive that is concerned.

1st off, our troops need our support!!! They're doing the right thing, and if the stock holders don't like it, SCREW THEM!!! The american flag is for patriotism. it does NOT symbolize war. how stupid are they? Wear the hat!!! and if they say something to you, just politely explain that "here at (insert company's name here) we like to show our patriotism" Or something like that that they can't hold against you.

I think it's a load of crap!!! All the employees in the shop should be wearing one. Very un-American, on the Corporate end of the stick. The constitution says there's no law against burning a flag, so we should be able to display a flag, on our job!

That's ridiculous. The American flag still stands for our country and our freedoms. It has no symbol of war on it nor does it mean anything about the stupid war. Be patriotic, wear the hat and be proud to be an American.

The American flag stands for America, and aparently the stockholders are ok with your American company making them money, so they can't be anti anything. Screw them.

Oh well you're boss told you not to do it for a reason. If you do it and your stockholders pull out from doing business with your company then your boss is gonna be angry and you will most likely be fired. You have to learn how to pick and choose your battles wisely.

People seeking peace are against the flag, just the White House Administration.
However, America has become overtly polarized politically.
Why encourage widening this gap?
Peace and good luck

I think in a free country it should make no difference. The problem is in this land of money and all hail the economy we are expected to suck up to people to get money no matter what your job is. Blame the government for alienating foreign investors. To go against their wishes is standing up for your rights and retaining your pride but in the greater scheme of things its all about $$$$$. That's what we get when we blindly pursue capitalism

While you have the freedom to display you patriotism, you still have to go by guidelines set at your workplace. If something you do offends someone else, you could be endangering your future with the company.
I would find out just how much authority the person who told you this has over your position and then go over their head to their supervisor.
