$400,000 is also what I know, no question it is ridiculous but compared to other top 10 corporation CEO salaries??. Clinton reportedly made 40 million in speaking engagements fees? Did our taxes and donations not fund the Clinton library in Arkansas?
So far the American public has allowed/avoided pay raise issues. Preferring not to complain and many not to vote at all.
Until we raise a stink it will stay the same. If no one monitors this stuff then why do we ask now? Hopefully the IRS will be all over this election and the administration. Bush just followed the others. It's pennies compared to the gravy a President makes after and bennies during. In my opinion.

I'm afraid ndmagicman is a little misinformed. President Bush did not give himself a pay raise when he took office. The president has no control over his salary. Congress controls the pay of all federal officials including the president and of themselves. They basically give themselves a pay raise every year.

The presidents salary was raised by Congress in 2000 in a treasury and government appropriations bill. The bill was signed into law by president Clinton. See the attached link.

We in our apathy as voters and citizens have allowed congress from the president on down to vote their own salaries. Each year they vote almost unanimously at least one or two pay increases. lol how sweet is that?

It was only $210,000. One of the first things Bush did 6 years ago was to give himself a raise to $400,000. He certainly hasn't earned a penny of it.
