please only answer this completely honestly.

I live in the country and i've lived in the country my whole life. i've lived with people talking about how their friends went cow tipping and whenever the subject comes up everyone laughs. it's starting to seem like cow tipping is one of the most common myths! plus, cows don't usually sleep standing up. Has anyone PERSONALLY had a successful cowtipping adventure?

I think it's a myth! My friend is a rancher and she said she tried it with some friends when they were kids and all the cows that were standing up were awake and they just walked off.

I think maybe people spread that around to sort of make country people look stupid, like all they do for fun is push over sleeping cows and see who can throw cow turds the farthest.

Cow tipping is a myth. The only domesticated species of livestock that can sleep standing up is horses. Horses have a special bone in their knee which, when they stand up, slips into place and prevents their legs from collapsing out from under them when they sleep. This is helpful to them because if they are attacked by a predator while they are sleeping they are already on their feet and ready to take flight. However cows do not have this bone in their knee and thereby cannot sleep standing up. You also cannot tip a cow over while it is awake. Cows on average weigh at least 1,200 lbs. That combined with the fact that if someone comes up to a cow it will probably move away from him or her makes cowtipping virtually impossible. Now if you wanted to go cow tipping you would probably have to take a pick up truck and crash into them at around 30 mph. However you would probably end up killing the cow and severely damaging your pick up truck. And the reason everybody laughs out in the country when someone says they went cowtipping is because they know it's impossible and are laughing at the person making the claim.

Never did go cow tipping. I think it was the country folks way of making fun of city folk. Take the city slicker into the country and tell them to run out there and tip over the sleeping cow, then drive off and leave them stranded.

It's a myth. My friend has lived on a beef farm her whole life. There is no way to get one of those cows to fall over unless you ram it with the truck, and then you're out a truck. Even if you catch one off guard it really doesn't work- she's tried. :)

it does happen, but it shouldnt be done. Cows do sleep standing up, same as horses, some do sleep laying down. When you go cow tippin you knock the cow over and when they hit the ground they can break ribs and they can puncture lungs so its not adviseable to do.

I live in New England, and when we were kids (long ago) we would push the dairy cows, some would fall if they were sleeping or believe it or not eating in the dairy barn. But we were never successful with Herefords or beef cattle, they just walked away. But it is not nice, the cows canhave heart attacks and break bones you should not do it. If a farmer catches you in his field, he may call the police too as it is tresspassing and endangering his livestock, in my day, we were occasionally shot at. (Boy were we stupid when we were young)

i think it's a myth. because:
1. cows don't sleep standing up and i doubt they'd let you push them over while they're awake
2. city people have been making fun out of making up stories about country people.
i live in the country and my mom lived in the country and so on and so forth (almost her entire family has lived in the country for the majority of their lives) and neither of us has done that nor have we known anyone that has done it succesfully.

I grew up on a farm and i must say that "cow tipping" is the same thing as "snype hunting". It doesn't exist and isn't real. It's just something that you can talk about and act as though it is real to fool naive people.

The closest I ever came was shooting bottle rockets at cows.

In college on our way to a barn dance, we used the steel tubes from vacuum cleaner duct taped on one end to shoot a bottle rocket at 9-10 cows that were close to the road. They all watched my friend open the window sit on the 'sill' of the car door aiming across the roof and light the rocket. When the rocket shot out, they all moved back a step or two. When the rocket bounced of one, that cow and the 4-5 nearest cows backed up a few more steps, looking down at the rocket hissing there. And when it exploded, all of the cows 'gallopped" away at full cow speed.

It wasn't cow tipping - but it was hilarious!
