i teach primary school, and kids fall off chairs all the time. they rarely hurt themselves. However one kids bashed into a cupboard and needed a stich in his eyebrow.
Statistically- i'd say about 1:30 rocks ends in a fall.
1:100 fall that ends in tears.
only 1 ever has resulted in the hospital appointment.
i agree tho' with the person that cats need to watch out- so so my feet and legs!

It certainly COULD be dangerous, if you rock back too far and fall over. Also, it is very bad FOR THE CHAIR. Those back legs aren't meant to hold weight like that. So perhaps when someone tells you not to rock back because you might get hurt, what they really mean is "DON'T BREAK MY CHAIR!"

I am not a large man, but in my lifetime I have had 3 chairs give out while doing that and several near slips(I guess I never learn).

Plastic "deck" chairs are notorious for this (you know the cheap, stackable ones that they sell everywhere). The plastic will fold backwards (kind of like an umbrella turning inside out) and become creased. It can, also, sometimes just break outright.

well, let's see. If you fall backwards and strike your head on a sharp object, it could prove fatal.

It's at least bad for the chair's legs.

Many chairs have weight limits, and those weight limits are calculated for all legs on the floor.

What do YOU think?
