Today we had a blood donation at my school, and I decided to do my part and donate. I passed all the tests, and wasn't nervous at all. I got hooked up, and she told me to tell her if I felt hot or dizzy. 20 seconds into it I got really hot and dizzy and tried to say something but she didn't hear me and I passed out. I was woken up and finished donating, and then I got up and walked and passed out again. It really sucked. Its now been 5 hours, 3 bottles of water, and a pizza dinner later, and I still feel lightheaded and have a headache when I try to read. Why is this? Also, why did I pass out? I'm a male, 6'1", and weigh 135 (so I'm pretty thin). Is that the reason? Finally, if I give blood in the future, will I pass out again?

People that are under 11o lbs are not supposed to give blood so your weight is ok. Did you drink orange juice when you woke up? That's what the nurses do after you donate blood they give you juice and cookies. Try to eat sugary things lik cookies and sweets you know ice cream, candy brownnies. ThE reason why you passed out when you got up after donating blood was because you probaly got up too soon. The nurse should of told you to stay seated for atleast a 30 minutes that way they can keep an eye on you incase you do faint. Have you tried just to rlax for a couple of hours. Justlay down on the couch and relax. If I were you I would stay home from school just to have your body re energize. It would be helpful if you went to the doctor's office or to a clinic to make sure that you are ok. Probaly the water didn't hlp either because you need some junk food after you donate blood not healthy food.

It's actually normal since you lose like a pint of blood. You're usually supposed to eat sugary foods after you donate, like cookies, cupcakes, things like that so that you don't pass out. I don't think you really have to worry, but if anything else happens, you should go see a doctor.

You could also have vasovagal syncope.. though.. i don't know. I know that i have it, and its really annoying. I've passed out 3 times from doctor visits.. once from over heating and once from crushing my hand in a door. But, yeah.. i passed out while getting my blood taken, even though no blood was drawn at the time.

you could be anemic, but they should have tested for that before allowing you to donate. did you eat and drink before donating?
