There was a comic strip back in the 80s (I believe) that was called The Question. It was a bit of a dark comic book...Don't bother answering if you're going to give me something regarding the Joker or the Riddler because this is totally different...

I remember the Question! He even had his own title (after DC bought him, in the late 80's or early 90's.)

Vic Sage was a crusading newsman who got the help of Professor Aristotle to make a plastic mask that would conceal his features and could not be removed. He would release a gas that would cause the mask to bond to his skin and change the color of his clothes, so he could instantly 'change' without having to change clothes.

IIRC, the mask may have fiunctioned as a gas mask, while the changing gas might have been a sleep gas to those who were not wearing a protective mask.

The Question was the most smugly righteous hero in comics.

yes, dont you read comics today? DC bought the rights to the question , captain atom,judo master and the blue beetle. He is featured in the maxi series 52.

Yeah, the Question is a cool guy. I know him from his appeareance in Huntress: Cry for Blood but my husband is a big fan. He said he'd very fond of the new Question.
