I believe they are. I think if we were to just say men and women are equal we would have to define the paramaters in which they are equal. The true definition of equality is one thing is the same as another. For example A = A. They are both the same letter and are completely equal to eachother. You can sub one in for the other in a word and you will have the same result. However, men and women are not the same. Women can have babies and men cannot. Therefore, there is no equality because they can't be substituted for the same effect. Men are superior in some things, women in others but in the eyes of God, they have equal worth because He values them both and created them both to obey His Law - no other creatures on earth were given the Commandments - only men and women.

Men and women are equal, just not equal in all things, we are of equal worth. Obviously each gender has specialties and talents the other can't duplicate, we still need each other.

I think that you are looking at the problem the wrong way. Ponder about a problem/question long enough and eventually, a remarkable thing happens: Rather than such a question being solved with a YES or NO answer, the question itself disappears.

Consider the following facts:
Some women cannot have children.
Some women can have children.
Some men cannot have children.
Some men can have children.

Everyone else is somewhere in-between. Including animal species!

So instead of comparing one woman to every man, or one man to every woman in order to measure their worth, God would probably regard every person as UNIQUE. No two people will ever live the same lives, make the same choices and be compared to anyone else.

Yes. Men and women were both created in the image of God and are of equal worth. They just have different roles, gifts and talents. They're meant to compliment each other so they're not the same, but they are of equal worth.

Its not a math problem. We are all created in His image and likeness even though there are obvious physical differences, so we are equal in his eyes. Think of it spiritually not physically. Kind of like how my kids are way different, but I don't love one more than the other. Isn't this a little on the serious side for P&S?

Westerners look at the Wahabist states and see that the state guarantees women few opportunities or even safety except as granted by their male relatives. Muslims use the justification of a reward in heaven to justify the limitations of womens opportunities on earth. This is not a good justification as you could justify a lot of bad things by saying the receipients will receive their reward in heaven (slavery, killing of non-combatants, failing to relieve hunger and suffering). This is not a limited to Islam of course. At one time in history, European land owners were believed to have said to their workers, don't worry if you are starving on earth, because you will receive pie in the sky.

Ya couldn't get cow's milk without the cow, so hogwash to ya' for thinkin that there's no equality between man and woman, because she can have babies AND HE CAN'T. Where's that leave the ladies that can't have 'em? And just suppose, man and all of his infinite wisdom made it so that men could have babies> HMMM!

In fact, In the Bible, Genesis 1:26 God says " let us create man in our image, according to our likeness; 1:27 So God created man in his own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.

So there goes your theory on equality. SORRY!

Well I guess that would bring up the whole "do you believe in god" in order to answer you question. They may not be equal but at least they balance each other out. Creation vs. destruction.

There is nothing to debate on this one Sandy.

Men and Women are equal but different, two halves of a complementary whole.

God/Allah loves all of His children equally.

God, I hope we are equal!

But, historically, religion has done quite a bit to surpress women. Women, traditionally, aren't allowed to be preachers because we are considered less. Some will say because of Eve. Some will say other things.
