The idea that the Mayans believed December 21, 2012 was the end of the world is a bit of a myth. According to Wikipedia (see the source below; good read), 12/21/2012 will be the start of the 14th 400-year period in the Mayan Long Count calender -- signified by the date 13.0.0.0.0 (December 20, 2012 being 12.19.19.17.19). Apparently, however, the Maya did not always abbreviate their calendar to five decimal places, and in their full calendar, the date for the "end of creation" was October 21, 4772 AD.

That is incorrect. The Mayan Calendar ends on Dec. 21, 2012. Not the end of the world.

Yes, and its not just the mayans that predicted that either, do some research, there are some sites where lots of diffrent things lead up to the end of the world being in 2012.... one cuz of the mayans, another cuz of global warming, and the list goes on.
ONE VERY CREEPY THING THAT I JUST DISCOVERED...the person born on 6//6/06 will BE 6 in 2012...even though its a bunch of numbers and 666 isnt evil anymore...its kinda odd... but yes, many people say the end of the world is in 2012

NO.
The Mayan calendar runs out on Dec 23, 2012, but that doesn't mean the world will end. And anyway, even if the Mayans predicted the end of the world, why would you believe them? They are no longer around, their empire has disappeared, they were primitive, superstitious people.

I do not know if the world is going to end on December 23,2012. But i do know is that something wonderful is going to occur that has not happened in nearly 26000 years when the sun appears in the exact center of the galaxy between the end of the galaxy and earth. Now if the earth because of this event tilts here or there a little different it could be a little interesting especially if the earth's axis is way off kilter. It could also be the end of a way of thinking , the end of humans ruling and a another species take over the supremacy of earth . It could also be aplain day and nothing out of the ordinary happening.

The Mayan's simply wrote their dates in such a way that we interpret that as the end of the world, but they would have appended another number to the beginning of the date had they surpassed it. Look up the Mayan calendar system.

For some strange reason, calendars seem to end in December.
Not to worry. It was just part of the Mayan pick a losing number state lottery. It tied in with the annual sacrifice of inattentive young students.

Many may believe that based on that Mayan culture's calendar. But the truth as I know it (my faith in Jesus Christ)and according to what I believe, is that no one knows the time or the hour. Only God knows the time or the hour. This is explained in the Bible:
Revelation 16:15-17 (New International Version)
15 "Behold, I come like a thief! Blessed is he who stays awake and keeps his clothes with him, so that he may not go naked and be shamefully exposed."
Matthew 24:36
[ The Day and Hour Unknown ] "No one knows about that day or hour, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father. Read Matthew 24:35-37 (in Context) Matthew 24 (Whole Chapter)
Mark 13:32
[ The Day and Hour Unknown ] "No one knows about that day or hour, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father. Mark 13:31-33 (in Context) Mark 13 (Whole Chapter)
Psalm 74:9
We are given no miraculous signs; no prophets are left, and none of us knows how long this will be.

Again with the fallacies. The mayan calendar states that is "The end of the age of man." Not the end of the world. The bronze age ended and bronze didn't stop existing. The age of man may become the age of women. It may become the age of machines. It may become the age of flying spaghetti monsters. We won't know until it happens.
