I have been riding for years but just recently at a livery yard. I was wondering if there where any rules to go by.

It depends on the place you are riding at, each wil have different rules.
standard rules/courtsey true for most places are things like:
-Dont use others tack with out permission

-When riding in the arena with other people going the opposit direction pass "left shoulder to left shoulder"

-Ask permission of others in the arena if you want to longe your horse while they are riding.

-Lessons take priority, some places dont let you ride during lessons. If they do allow you to share with lessons then always stay out of the way of the lesson

-If you use a common piece of equipment (such as a pitch fork) put it back where you found it. Leave the arena how you found it (put away all cones/jumps/etc)

-Obey helmet rules, if they require helmets, dont argue or only wear it when others are around, just wear one. (this is a problem at the barn I own, borders pick fights over the helmet rule)

-Don't mess with other peoples horses, and don't interfere with others riding. Don't feed others horses treats with out permission, dont groom others horses with out permission, don't make comments about others riding when it's not asked for. Don't start rumors or gossip.

-ALWAYS have control of your horse. If you are having trouble controling your horse while riding, wait until the arena is empty to ride. Make sure your horse's ground manners are good, and that other people can safely handle your horse while cleaning it's stall or feeding. Make the stable owner aware of any vices your horse may have.

-Clean up after your horse in areas such as groomming stalls/wash rack/asile way.

-Close gaits. Dont smoke. Control your children/dogs (if allowed) Don't interfere with trivial things (don't fuss over silly things, for example I had a boarder that was upset that there were a couple of cob webs...in the barn...)

-Treat others with respect, and be polite and friendly.

Probably a lot of them, it depends on the yard and the other people using it really.
Not using other people's stuff without permission is fairly standard
Not feeding any treats to horses
closing gates etc
no smoking.
Generally common sense stuff usually, best to ask if you're not sure.

I wouldn't think anything other than basic courtesy and basic horse riding etiquette.
