Do you think we will have learned a valuable lesson about trying to set up democracies in the Middle East? Like maybe... not to do it again?

The only democracy we have set up in the Middle East that worked was the one we founded in 1948....Israel. Other than that....it ain't gonna happen.

Compared to Russia, the process is never predictable, but is well worth it. I personally will support any nation that wants democracy. It strenghens the whole world. What you should learn is what was the conditions of the people of Irac, and despite the problems, there lives are improving. But hey enjoy your latte, I am sure humanitarian efforts are not your concern, at least your church or home has not been blown up by terrorist yet.

Sure, for a while. It took the US less than 30 years (1975-2003) to forget the valuable lesson it learned in Vietnam (don't get involved in someone else's civil war, especially if it's a guerilla war), so, we can look forward to another debacle circa 2035...

I think this has taught us to do more Homework on the situation. Nothing will ever be the same. And Our Military needs to know what's out there. Good Stuff! Keep `em comin!

makes sense to me! there' s no way that a democracy can survive and flourish in a region that is ruled by religion and surrounded by dictatorships.
