Fertilization has to be internal in reptiles.

Most reptiles lay eggs with leathery shells. The eggs must be fertilized before the egg shell is put on.

just like where it does with almost all other animals, when the male and female have sex. the male fertalises the womans eggs while theyre still inside her. the female then usually carries the eggs for a while, finds a nest and lays them.
