I filed in january and had court at the end of March. My attorney says i will receive my discharge papers within 6months. Now my company has offered me a transfer to arizona which i had applied for before the whole bankruptcy issue. Do i wait till i have my paperwork and miss the chance of a lifetime or can i go without the official discharge?

No, if you are to make payments on your bankrupcy just be sure all parties have your current/new address and be sure to make the payments scheduled each month and on time.
Just be sure to contact your attorney and tell you you will be transfering locations for work so she can forward you all court documents you will need.
Good luck

From what you described, it sounds like you filed for a Chapter 7 bankruptcy. If that is the case, you are free to move at any time. Taking the new job won't be a problem for you. You file a Chapter 7 case at the court closest to where live. You need to personally appear at the meeting of creditors, but the court is not concerned with where you live after filing the case.

The trustee and creditors have 60 days from the first Meeting of Creditors to file any action objecting to your discharge. If they do not, then the discharge will be granted. You should be in the clear in about 4-6 weeks. Most of my Chapter 7 cases take about 3.5 months from the date the case was filed to obtain the discharge.

The bankruptcy doesn't hold you to the state you live in. You have already been to court and won't have to appear again. Make sure your attorney notifies the court of your change of address. Then GO.

And good luck!
